Fort Worth,Texas

Fort Worth is the fifth-largest city in the state of Texas and the 17th-largest in the United States. Located in the south of the country, the city covers almost 300 square miles and is the county seat of Tarrant County.

As of the latest U.S. Census estimate, Fort Worth had a population of approximately 702,000. The city is the second-largest cultural and economic center of the Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area, the fifth-largest metropolitan area in the U.S. with a population of 5.8 million in 12 counties.

Fort Worth was founded as a military camp in 1849, named after General William Jenkins Worth. Today, the city is portrayed as more old-fashioned and laid-back than its neighbor, Dallas. Known as "Cowtown" for its roots as a cattle drive terminus, Fort Worth bills itself as "Where the West begins" and still celebrates its colorful Western, Southern, and conservative heritage.

Currently Fort Worth stands as the 9th safest U.S. city among those with a population over 500,000.

I lived about a mile from this grass airfield. We used to ride our bicycles to it to watch a bright yellow Piper Cub fly from there. Once a year we rode over to see the blimp that came and flew around Fort Worth. Now Alcon sits there and traffic is horrible. There was a little pond down the hill and we kids used to catch catfish there. I am now 67 yrs. old.
